My work infuses design practice with theoretical frameworks from several key disciplines to shape a powerful methodology for exploring and comprehending complexity. This holistic approach guides the synthesis and articulation of compelling, socially conscious design opportunities. By facilitating a strategic discourse of discovery and renewal, Design is the conversation that leads to unprecedented possibilities that are inspired, tangible, and good.
Here are a few examples of what I’ve been up to:
Startup boot camp? Design Management summer camp!
Business Model Canvas developed by my team at 3 Day Startup
I would like to share a story about one of the most exciting weekends of all time. This past April I was accepted to participate in 3 Day Startup in San Antonio Read More
Kick-start “knowing” with what you don’t
My MFA thesis sent me into a Design space that I can’t imagine any of my friends or colleagues guessing I would have ever found myself in. Local food?! At twenty-seven years I could barely feed myself, let alone feed myself well. Read More
Sharing the madness across space and time
Early-stage collaborative way-finding is a messy good time. Teams dive head first into abject calamity, gobbled up in an avalanche of complexity and losing all sense of up or down, but soon identify patterns and relationships Read More
Growth Architecture for the Cutting Edge
GALAXYADVISORS are premier providers of original social network analysis solutions and consultation, built upon decades of cutting edge academic research at the Center for Collective Intelligence at Massachusetts Institute of Tech Read More
Illustrating Collaborative Dynamics
Today we are witnessing first-hand a global revolution of collaboration and innovation, uniting creative minds across vast expanses of space and time. People from all walks of life now have access to the tools and channels necessary Read More
COINs: Researching Student-led Innovation

Stories About the Future
If I told you decision-makers involved in the Haitian recovery could better prepare themselves for the future by cooking up a series of fictional stories, you would probably brush it off as a bunch of irrational, disconnected garbage. Read More
Homegrown Social Enterprise Takes Root!
This past summer I was involved in an intense project involving the local communities of Hudson Hill and Woodville, Harambee House, Healthy Savannah, the Chatham Environmental Forum (CEF), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Read More
Much more going on right here…
I recently completed my MFA thesis, Identifying & Exploring New Opportunities for Technological Innovation & Reconfiguration in the Independent Food Sector, which received the 2010 SCAD Thesis Proposal Award for the fall quarter.
Previous Experience
Prior to my time at SCAD I spent several years designing and building interactive web/mobile apps for firms that ranged from tanking record labels to the Fortune 100.
The best years of my “devsigner” career were spent at USAA, where I was a lead designer involved in the inception of USAA’s mobile channel. I designed and directed the member experience of mobile.usaa.com, and collaborated with product management and IT/infrastructure to create device-targeted presentation models. This approach achieved multiple strategic wins, allowing the mobile site to provide a light-weight desktop interface for deployed military personnel, accessible streamlined interface for disabled members, and seamless integration with the USAA iPhone app.
I was also the lead designer for the USAA iPhone app, which introduced the ability to deposit checks with an iPhone. I collaborated with mobile product management and a light-weight team of Innovation Lab developers, contributing detailed UX flow architecture, UI prototypes and best-practices guidance. USAA Deposit@Mobile was a ground-breaking first for both the financial and mobile industries, and generated $1.5 million of deposits within the first three days of launch. Read more about my time as “the mobile guy” here:
USAA iPhone App + Deposit@Mobile
World-class banking just crawled all up in your pocket! In July of 2007 I was recruited by USAA in San Antonio, Texas, as a contract designer during the closing months of a massive web redesign campaign. Read More
Not just design wizardry going on here…
In the summer of 2010 I joined a medical anthropology expedition for three weeks in the trans-Himalayan range of northern India. I have an ever-growing collection of photo galleries of my travels, and more sets will be posted soon!
Ascent to Khardung La
A few hours after our initial attempt we piled back into our jeeps and started back up the hill. The landslide had been cleared and traffic was well on its way. The paved two-lane highway soon switched to a one-lane dirt track Read More
First Attempt at Khardung La
Our first attempt to trek up to Khardung La Pass was foiled by a landslide, so took the opportunity to stroll around Leh and absorb street life on a sunny afternoon.
Thiksey Monastery
A few shots from an afternoon spent in Thiksey Monastery in Ladakh. The view from the roof was absolutely breathtaking.. I would have just had my mail forwarded and moved in, but the monks weren’t taking new roomies.
Hemis Monastery
Hemis is a 15th century Buddhist monastery tucked between converging cliffs high above lush green farmland. This was just one of many treks throughout Ladakh.
The Open Roads of Ladakh
You have 360 degrees to choose from. Whichever direction you gaze you’ll be captivated. Ladakh is about contrast. It is the raw stuff of existence. Piercing blue sky, razor-sharp peaks, texture, red barren Earth dotted with valleys, each exploding with life.
First Days in Leh
We arrived in Leh on July 14th and spent a few days acclimating to the altitude — 11,500ft isn’t terribly unmanageable, but your body needs to adjust properly to avoid or minimize altitude mountain sickness, not to mention the Read More
An Afternoon in Delhi
I arrived in Delhi on July 13th with only a few hours to explore the neighborhood where I was staying. Early the next morning I met my team and departed for Leh.
